A cataract occurs when the clear lens inside your eye becomes cloudy. The majority of cataracts are related to the passing of years and are very common with increasing age. It is a natural part of the aging process and the changes happen very gradually. Age related cataract can start in middle age but many early cataracts are small and do not affect vision. Although most cataracts are age related there are other types of cataract such as:

- Unlike other refractive procedures that change the shape of the cornea, clear lens extraction corrects vision by removing the crystalline lens in the eye and replacing it with a new artificial lens of a different focusing power, much like what happens in cataract surgery.
