WE OFFER A VARIETY OF TREATMENTS TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS

A cataract occurs when the clear lens inside your eye becomes cloudy.  The majority of cataracts are related to the passing of years and are very common with increasing age.  It is a natural part of the aging process and the changes happen very gradually.  Age related cataract can start in middle age but many early cataracts are small and do not affect vision.  Although most cataracts are age related there are other types of cataract such as:

  • Secondary cataract which can form after surgery for other eye problems;
  • Traumatic cataract which can develop after an eye injury;
  • Congenital cataract which occurs in babies at birth or develop in childhood and radiation cataract which develops after exposure to some types of radiation.

Other risk factors for cataracts can include diseases like diabetes; smoking and alcohol use; prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Clear Lens Extraction is a procedure used to correct your prescription so that you can have good vision with the use of glasses – an alternative to laser eye surgery. Further points to note are:

  • Unlike other refractive procedures that change the shape of the cornea, clear lens extraction corrects vision by removing the crystalline lens in the eye and replacing it with a new artificial lens of a different focusing power, much like what happens in cataract surgery.
  • State-of-the-art visual assessment technology is used to assess the type of lens which best suits the patient and meets their overall needs. The new lens that is implanted is known as an intraocular lens (IOL).
  • The majority of patients notice that their vision improves relatively quickly after a clear lens extraction procedure. This is usually noticeable after 1-2 days.
