Dr Davide Schiroli Msc, PhD

Biomedical Sciences Research Institute

Dr Davide Schiroli was awarded a Master’s degree in Biotechnology and subsequently a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Parma, Italy. His first years of research were focused on the study of pyridoxal phosphate (PLP)-dependent enzymes in the laboratory of Prof Alessio Peracchi. Here he published the results of his studies of a human brain enzyme which shed light on the peculiar activity of this recently discovered protein.

Davide arrived in Prof Tara Moore’s group in January 2015, where he started his first post-doc working on a Fight for Sight UK funded project on delivery of gene therapeutics to the ocular surface. He is also contributing to the research in other projects of the group, including the genetics of pterygium, Fuchs’ endothelial corneal dystrophy and keratoconus.
